Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how gains (“the App”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the App. By using gains, you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
gains is operated by Jonatan Austigard. For privacy questions or requests, contact jonatan.austigard@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the App, we may collect the following:
2.1 Account and identity
- When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive authentication credentials through Firebase Authentication. This may include a unique user ID and, when provided by the sign-in provider, your email address and display name.
- Your signed-in session is stored locally on your device so you remain signed in between launches.
2.2 Meal and nutrition data
- Meal descriptions you enter, meal types (for example breakfast or lunch), protein and calorie values, dates, times, and timezone information.
- Saved meal presets (name, description, nutrients, and related settings).
- Account preferences stored with your profile, such as timezone and the date of your first logged meal.
2.3 AI-assisted estimates
- If you use AI estimation, the App sends your meal description and related context (local date, time, timezone, and an optional country hint derived from your device locale) to our backend so an AI model can estimate nutrients.
- If you save an AI-assisted meal, we may store the estimate details returned by the model (including confidence, explanation, model identifier, and the model response) with that meal.
2.4 Technical and operational data
- Our servers may log request metadata such as user ID, request identifiers, timing, and error codes for security, reliability, and debugging. Meal descriptions are not written to these operational logs in production.
- App updates may be delivered through Expo’s update services, which may process standard device and app version information needed to check for and deliver updates.
2.5 Information we do not collect
- We do not use advertising SDKs or sell your personal information.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the App.
- We do not collect photos, camera data, precise location, HealthKit data, or contacts.
- We do not send push notifications.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Create and manage your account and keep you signed in
- Provide meal logging, presets, daily totals, and history features
- Generate AI-assisted nutrition estimates when you request them
- Operate, secure, and troubleshoot the App and backend services
- Respond to privacy or support requests you send us
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Where information is stored
- Account credentials and profile identity fields are stored in Google Firebase Authentication.
- Your meal logs, presets, and profile settings are stored in Google Cloud Firestore associated with your account.
- Backend processing runs on Google Firebase Cloud Functions (including in the europe-west1 region).
- A local auth session may be stored on your device.
5. How we share information
We share information with service providers only as needed to operate the App. We do not sell personal information.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and related account authentication / token revocation.
- Google — Sign in with Google, Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Logging, and Google Gemini for AI meal estimates.
- Expo — app builds and over-the-air update delivery.
When you request an AI estimate, meal description text and related context are processed by Google’s Gemini API under Google’s applicable terms and privacy practices for that service.
6. Retention and deletion
- We keep your account and app data while your account remains active so the App can provide its features.
- You can delete your account in the App (Profile → Account → Delete account). Deletion removes your Firestore user data (including meals and presets) and your Firebase Authentication account. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Apple tokens as part of that process when required.
- Signing out removes your local session but does not delete your server-stored data.
- Limited operational logs (for example user IDs and request metadata) may remain in Google Cloud Logging for a period according to Google Cloud retention settings, even after account deletion.
- Uninstalling the App from your device does not by itself delete your server account. Use in-app account deletion, or contact us, if you want your account removed.
7. Children’s privacy
gains is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
8. International processing
We use Google and other providers that may process data in the United States, Europe, or other locations where they operate. By using the App, you understand that your information may be processed in countries other than where you live.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access or request a copy of personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and associated personal data
- Ask questions about how we process your information
You can delete your account in the App. For other requests, email jonatan.austigard@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
